About Rapid City AAUW
The Rapid City Branch has been advancing equity for women and girls for nearly 100 years. The branch was chartered in 1927 with 30 dues paying members. The organizing treasurer was Miss Della M. Haft, librarian of the SD School of Mines. Since that time the branch has been actively carrying out their mission locally and supporting the national AAUW work. Following a National AAUW initiative in 1935 the Rapid Branch sponsored pre-school and kindergarten taught by a teacher trained to instruct children of that age group. In the 1960s the Rapid City branch began their used book sale which continues today. The funds raised by this event support our 1) scholarships to young women from West River SD pursuing their educational goals, and 2) grants to non-profits organizations whose mission aligns with that of AAUW. Our branch generally meets on the first or second Saturday of each month September through May. All are welcome to attend.
